Below are the remarks that I delivered during the public comment/testimony period at the Planning Board's September 29, 2015 meeting regarding JMF's application for site plan approval for the Post House:
I’d like to start with something on which we can all agree: today was a great day for Maplewood. We all deserve congratulations because, as many of you know, today Maplewood Village was named as the best downtown in New Jersey by NJ Monthly. Not only was this recognition well deserved, but it was the hard work of many town businesspeople, employees, and volunteers, including specifically several members of the Planning Board. I’d like to specifically thank and congratulate Mayor DeLuca, who personally lobbied, begged...
I am proud to be endorsed by the Village Keepers. Taking a second look at the proposed post office development project is a key issue in my campaign, and I stand with the Village Keepers in their mission. Read their endorsement in The Village Green.
Among the main reasons that I decided to run for Township Committee is that local government needs to be refreshed. Maplewood needs fresh ideas, a new voice, improved ways to provide information to the public, and to be more responsive to the views of the community. Nowhere are the flaws of the current administration more clear than in the Township's misguided plan to redevelop the post office site. The current proposal, which calls for demolition of the current building and new construction of a large-scale modern apartment/retail development, is a bad deal for Maplewood from all angles. Among them:
The current proposal is to sell the building and the land (the most prime real estate in town) to the de...
We had another beautiful Spring day in Maplewood and I enjoyed spending a few hours today meeting and speaking with voters in the Village. Some of the younger members of my campaign team helped me set up my campaign table (check out the cute video below). Please join us tomorrow for my Campaign Bash from 3 PM to 5 PM at The Woodland.
Please come to Greg's Campaign Bash this Sunday from 3 PM to 5 PM at The Woodland (former Women's Club building). You'll have a chance to meet Greg, hear his ideas for our community, and have a fun afternoon with fellow Maplewood families. Beer, wine, soft drinks and light snacks will be served. We hope to see you there!
If elected, I plan to aggressively explore and pursue opportunities for shared services with neighboring communities to both improve services to Maplewood and achieve greater financial efficiency to provide tax relief to homeowners. I am also concerned with supplying better services and affordable housing options for seniors. We need to focus development efforts on senior housing options and provide quality resources, transportation, and activities to attract and retain senior residents.
CC and I had a great time today at the "Meet Greg" playdate in DeHart Park. I had the opportunity to meet lots of parents from the surrounding neighborhoods and hear their thoughts and concerns. And the kids had a great time playing in the park and blowing bubbles.
One of the main reasons that I am running for Township Committee is to be a voice for young families in Maplewood. I'm very grateful to have the support of so many of our friends and neighbors, and even more excited that they are getting their kids involved in the campaign. I'll be attending a "Meet Greg" playdate with CC this Sunday at DeHart Park from 10:30-12:30, as well as candidate coffees on Bowdoin Street (Sat AM) and Hickory Drive (Sun PM). Please join me.
